Painter, sculptor Antonio Villella

I was so excited when the invitation came through to Antonio Villella's exhibition.  You might remember him from the Yarra Valley Open Studio Program.  Then I was completely taken away with his fruit wood sculptures.  This time I was bowled over with the paintings, just stunning.

It's great to see paintings and sculptures by the same artist all in the one space.

Another great feature of this exhibition is the venue.  Marti Portfolio in Malvern Road,  is run by interior designer Mimi Marti.  She believes that it's sometimes difficult to imagine a work of art in a home setting, so she has set up her interior design business so that it feels like you are entering someone's living room.  No sterile gallery space here.  She always keeps fresh flowers in the 'living room'. As you can see it shows off Antonio's work to great effect. Sitting down chatting with her yesterday I felt very much like I was sharing an experience in her home. There's more to share about Marti Portfolio, so look out for that in the next few days.

Not all of the paintings are bold bold colours.

The Healesville Glassblowing Studio's wonderful handblown glass sculptures work beautifully with Antonio's painting.  Marti Portfolio is at 1405 Malvern Rd Malvern.
