David Moore-  Teacher Montsalvat

Davidm_s

David Moore teaches oil painting in the cottage at Montsalvat.  He's  been teaching there for many years and has a dedicated following of students, Dena Ashbolt amongst them. He is very strong on technique.  All of his students paint in black  and white until he deems them ready to use the full range of colour.  This gives them a clear understanding of light and shade.

Yesterday I attended a class...not to paint I'm sorry to say.  The students were very hospitable and allowed me to click away with my camera while they worked.  There was a lovely hum in the studio, with David moving from easel to easel gently guiding his students to the next bit.  Scroll through the photos below.  A photo essay of my visit is definitely the best way to get a flavour of David's studio classroom.  I've never been any good at oil painting...after seeing him at work yesterday, I feel very sure that he could teach me to love it.
